Anti-Racism Resources for Non-Black POC

“I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.” — Audre Lorde

All people of color have faced oppression in one way or another in their lives — whether they realize it or not. This plays out in many ways, from racial profiling of people who are Latinx to the pressure of being a “model minority” for Asians, and on and on. But here are a few things to note.

  1. Just because you’re part of an oppressed group, doesn’t mean you have played no role in the oppression of others.
  2. People of color have been pitted against each other to maintain White supremacy in this country and around the world. It was an exportation of European colonialism.
  3. Fighting for Black lives does not take away from your fight for your own liberation — in fact, as Audre Lorde tells us, liberation is collective and we can never be free while anyone else is unfree.

Here are some resources to get you started:

Of course, this list is not exhaustive. Look into our guide for White allies as well, and most importantly, commit to engaging and doing the work for the long-term. Racism won’t go away overnight… that’s been painfully obvious from the centuries of fighting by Black people and their allies. But change will happen when, slowly, all of us come together to fight for collective liberation, as Audre Lorde urges us to.
